Outer wilds art3/8/2023 I think Outer wilds resonated with me so much because, usually the text you find in these sorts of games is kind of a little bonus to the main plot. It goes from "ok this stuff I found is neat" to "oh fuck everything I have been learning has been leading up to this" At a certain point you hit this realization of *why* you're doing what you're doing. Before I even went on my first expedition I already had a couple ideas of where I wanted to go first. Writing down where each astronaut was, what features are on each planet, what I find where, what mysteries I have discovered, and what details I learned. But eventually aimless wandering should turn into exploring with purpose.Ĭlick to expand.Something that I think aided my playthrough was to write my own journal on my second screen and fill it out every cycle that passed. It can feel like you're just aimlessly wandering around, and tbh at first it is like that. It's about exploring, being curious, asking yourself questions you want answers to, and setting your own goals. This isn't about solving puzzle one, then solving puzzle two, etc. I can try to help more specifically if you give me more specific info about what you're trying to do. With that said, do you have any questions you want answers for? Has there been anything you've seen or read that you want to know more about? Are there any locations you haven't explored yet? Here's the thing, if you're not genuinely curious about anything you've seen and anything you've read, if you haven't been asking yourself questions that you want answers to, then OW may not be for you. Try to fill out everything you can in an area until you can't find anything else, then check your ship log, see how it connects to something else, and go there. Whip out your signalscope and follow a signal. Set a goal for yourself and try your best to complete it. You gotta be curious about what you're seeing and reading (and you do have to read.some of it is flavor text and lore, but a lot of times it's info that can help). When that happens, check your ship log as soon as you get a chance (cause you may not even realize what you've found). Every time you find something important, you get a notification saying something was added to your ship log. Anything with a big ol question mark means there's more explore and find in and area.Ĭheck your ship log if you haven't already. Rumor mode will show you the important stuff you've found and how it connects to other things. Your ship log should be the first place you go to if you're looking for direction. Go to your ship log and go to rumor mode. But eventually aimless wandering should turn into exploring with purpose. You can also find Reddit threads where people are really good about giving hints without spoiling.Ĭlick to expand. This is common, don't worry. If you get stuck, feel free to ask me for help! I love helping OW players and i definitely won't spoil anything. What you find may not initially make sense, but keep exploring, keep being curious, and things will start coming together. Everywhere you go is a learning experience. There's no wrong way to go in the beginning. Take your time when you need to, but being reckless in the name of curiosity is fun too. There's no items, upgrades, or xp, the only reward is knowledge. You're gonna die a bunch, but it's not a roguelike. It'll also tell you if you've found everything in an area or if there's more to find. You have a ship log that will keep track of important findings. There's lots of great lore and dialogue to read and you don't want the world to keep moving while you're reading. In the settings turn on "freeze time while reading." There's three settings for it, make sure they're all on freeze. Some non spoiler tips but I'll hide em anyway: It's an exploration focused puzzle game where there's no immediate goal, no quests, no enemies, no collectibles, just pure fucking raw unadulterated exploration. It's not a game for everyone, I'll get that outta the way. If you know nothing about the game, great! It's a game that's best experienced as blind as possible. Hi OP I'm one of like 3 Outer Wilds fans on the vesti and I take it upon myself to help guide and ease new players into OW with friendly tips and helpful advice.
